Munya debacle is M-Net’s loss

Zimbabweans are resilient, hardworking and intelligent people (as shown by the 92 percent literacy rate).
But at the weekend I almost cried when I got the shock of my life when Munyaradzi Chidzonga, the country’s representative in Big Bother Africa All Stars show screened on DStv’s Channel 198 narrowly missed the grand prize.
How come?

Many people share the same sentiment and are asking themselves what could have happened to our “Diamond Boy” who survived eviction a record eight times.
Already M-Net Africa’s credibility has been put to question regarding the grand finale in which Nigeria’s Uti won (by a small margin) when the “people’s choice” was Munya.
The show itself is now shrouded in controversy and many have lost faith in it and have promised not to watch it again.
The same thing happened on Idols after M-Net announced the wrong contestant as the winner.

Being a Zimbabwean, naturally I felt robbed because the much-anticipated finale fell far short of convincing.
Is there anything that M-Net knows that Big Bother fans throughout the continent did not know about?
Was the barn twist fair to anyone? Can one survive eight times and still fail to win?
There are so many questions that need answers and it will be unfortunate if M-Net fail to explain themselves regarding the voting as well the results.

Frankly speaking, Uti was in a state of shock on being announced the winner and he even asked himself how Africa could have voted for him?
Usually the evictions were emotional for him but when he was announced the winner he didn’t shed tears of joy.
In an interview from South Africa yesterday Munya was grateful of the support he received from home.

“I just want to say tinotenda (thank you). This is only the beginning and we want to put back Zimbabwe on the map,” he said.

Zimbabwean Big Brother All Stars fans, led by the country’s moguls, are in the process of setting up a Munyaradzi Fan Club that seeks to raise US$300 000 that would be given to Munya for becoming the nation’s pride.
Lets all support this noble venture.

Meanwhile, a week ago we had an article that criticised some of the Power FM DJs who for some reason cannot sustain a discussion in English.
We hope to bring you the responses next week.
