TWO Gweru men who allegedly poured petrol into a room where two women were sleeping before setting it alight, have been charged with murder after the two women died on separate days at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare.

Garikayi Zvawanda Tabaringa (43) allegedly carried out the deadly attack on his girlfriend Cynthia Hlabangana and her cousin Nancy Sibanda on Friday when Hlabangana ditched him.

Tabaringa and his accomplice Itai Manyoka (34) both of Ascot suburb appeared before Gweru magistrate Ms Judith Taruvinga, each facing two counts of murder.

The duo on Saturday appeared before Gweru Magistrate Mr Musaiwona Shotgame facing attempted murder charges since Hlabangana and Sibanda were still battling for life at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

However, following the death of Ms Hlabangana and Ms Sibanda on Sunday and Tuesday respectively, the pair now faces murder charges. They were not asked to plead and were advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The two were remanded to December 13.
