HIGHLANDERS’ hitman and 2015 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League’s Golden Boot winner Knox Mutizwa impressed Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt with another stellar performance in a friendly match against Supersport in South Africa on Tuesday evening.

Mutizwa, who is undergoing trials with the Clever Boys, provided the pass that led to the goal Wits scored as the two South African Premiership sides played to a 1-1 draw.

It was his third friendly match for the Johannesburg side. The Bosso marksman scored an incredible four goals in his first game against a second tier league side.

A source at Wits said Hunt is impressed with Mutizwa and wants him to fill the remaining foreign player slot the club has.

“He has seen him and likes what he saw,” said the source.

Mutizwa said although he did not find the back of the net against Supersport, he was happy to have provided the assist in the drawn friendly.

“I am happy with my perfomances so far and it’s all looking promising,” said Mutizwa.

The Soccer Star of the Year second runner-up said he was certain that contract negotiations were only a formality unless unforseen forces come into play.

Should Mutizwa sign for Wits, he will become the second Zimbabwean at the club, joining Mutare-born Onismor Bhasera, who joined the Clever Boys in August 2013.

Mutizwa gets the perfect opportunity to bid his Bosso supporters farewell by leading the club’s frontline in the final of the Easycall Cup against league champions Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

The Bosso gunman returns home tomorrow afternoon to prepare for the all-Bulawayo cup final.

Mutizwa’s imminent departure for the South African Premiership means the striker will also be lost to the Warriors’ African Nations Championship (Chan) team.

Chan is a tournament strictly for players plying their trade in their home country’s domestic leagues. Zimbabwe qualified for the tournament that is set for Rwanda from January 16 to February 7, 2016.

Mutizwa has been in the form of his life at Bosso this season, scoring 14 goals, despite playing only 17 matches.

He recently extended his stay at the club by a year in a move aimed at ensuring the Bulawayo giants benefit financially when he makes a move. His two-year contract was due to expire at the end of this month.

Mutizwa is a Highlanders junior product who broke into the first team in 2011 when the club was still being coached by Mkhuphali Masuku.

He was among the players deemed excess to requirement after the expiry of his three-year contract last season but Bosso’s then coach Kelvin Kaindu intervened to ensure he was retained.
