Chimbetu at Extra Mile Leisure Centre tonight.
The gig, which promises the best in swag, music and spark, is one of the many shows that the flamboyant singer Mutodi has lined up since the release of his chart topper titled “Simbi Yamudhara”.
The seven-track album grows on you every day and it represents everything positive about Mutodi, a man full of style and panache that can make Koffi Olomide turn green with envy. At 32, Mutodi has revived rhumba music, which was seemingly fading away with the demise of such groups as Diamond Musica and Lubumbashi Stars.
Backed by the 30-member Real Sounds of Africa, Mutodi could be the next big thing to happen in rhumba circles what with his edgy lyrics and head-nodding rhythms. Songs to watch out for are “Peshi”, “Chigorodanda”, “Tisasiyane” and “Parwendo”.
Those attending the Harare International Festival of the Arts should expect to see Mutodi live on stage.
On the other hand, Sulu commands a huge following comprising both the young and the mature.
The singer is set to charm his many diehard fans in Harare along the Masvingo Road with his performance there. He will be blending a bit of the old with something new from his latest album titled “Non-Stop”.
So far indications are that Sulu is at the top of his game and with a Nama award this year, surely the youngster is one to beat this year in dendera circles.
The gig will serve as a farewell show to his adoring fans before he heads to the United Kingdom where he has reportedly built a strong fan base.
