BULAWAYO provincial  football champions, Mzilikazi High School has named its Under-17 team which is set to travel to Chinhoyi on Friday.The team qualified after winning the M and H district tournament that was held in the city this month.

Mzilikazi High School sports director Simba Tavanhira confirmed that all preparations were successful and the team was set to embark on their journey tomorrow morning.

“The school and school development committee have been making preparations for the boys to travel and so far everything is ready for the boys to travel,” Tavanhira said.

Once a powerhouse in boys’ football in Bulawayo and winners of some of Zimbabwe’s lucrative soccer tournaments like the recently ended Copa Coca-Cola when it was still an Under-20 tournament in 1989, 1993, 1999 and 2001, Mzilikazi are set to represent Bulawayo in the M and H boys’ Under-17 national tournament.

Phathisani Masango, the Mzilikazi team manager said that a professional coach Dalubuhle Bhebhe had been invited to prepare the boys for the tournament and was confident that the team was going to do well.

“The team is geared up and their morale is very high after being trained by Dalubuhle Bhebhe for a few sessions in preparation for the event,” said Masango.

Mgcini Ncube, the Mzilikazi football coach said that his team was made of good players who have seen action in the Premier Soccer League like Elton Sibanda and Terrance Nyarambi who play for Bantu Rovers.

“I am confident that no team can stop them from winning the tournament,” said Ncube.

Ncube who has been coaching the Mzilikazi side for five years, has worked with Kudakwashe Mahachi who recently returned from a 10-day trial stint with French giants AS Monaco on Sunday.

The sports director expressed his gratitude to the parents who played a very crucial role in the success of the team’s trip.
