MAKOKOBA Member of Parliament Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube has urged parents to complement Government efforts through engaging in fundraising activities to support schools in their communities.

Rtd Col Dube said when schools were being run by whites, they held fairs on Sundays, selling cakes and scones and the proceeds were used to support schools.

He encouraged parents whose children are attending school now, to do the same. Rtd Col Dube, who is also the Minister of Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators, Ex-Political Detainees and Restrictees, said this yesterday during a ceremony where he, in collaboration with the Rotary club, donated 2 000 books to Mzilikazi Library and Technology Centre.

Rtd Col Dube said the donated books would greatly benefit schools in Makokoba constituency in particular and Bulawayo pupils in general.
Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Martin Moyo, who received the books, expressed gratitude for the donation.

“There is no greater endowment that you would have given us apart from this. As a constituency, we are very grateful for the donation that the Minister and the Rotary club has given us. This shows that the Minister is carrying us on his shoulders even during his reign,” said Cllr Moyo.
