THE National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) People’s Choice voting platform has been opened with the public being urged to vote for their favourite artistes to avoid disappointment, come Saturday.

Awards’ organisers, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), said voting would run until 6PM on the awards night.

The People’s Choice Award is a special award given to an artist or arts organisation selected by the public. “The public is at liberty to select an artist of their choice from categories of Music, Literary Arts, Dance, Visual Arts, Film and Television, Theatre, Spoken Word and Promoters,” NACZ communication and marketing officer – Catherine Mthombeni said.“All those who’d like to vote for their favourite artist for the People”s Choice Award can send their artist”s name to Whatsapp number +263 785 001 120 as many times. The artist with the most votes will be announced at the awards ceremony.”

Meanwhile, preparations for the awards ceremony, which is now in its 15th edition, are at an advanced stage with adjudication complete. Artistes who will perform on the night will be revealed today. Nama is the forum where NACZ recognises outstanding achievements within the arts sector. The awards are a means of encouraging creativity and excellence in the quality of the arts, making Zimbabwe a force to reckon with on the international arena.
