THE National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) and National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) will conduct a national Level One coaching and refereeing korfball course at Queen Elizabeth High School in Harare.Zimbabwe Korfball Association (ZKA) will run the two-day course which  starts on Friday.

Korfball is a ball sport with similarities to netball and basketball. It has a mixed-gender league and an all-women league, but no all-men league.

The association president, Tarirai Chadeba, said the move will ensure that all schools have qualified officials to train the sport.

“We will be holding a korfball coaching course at Queen Elizabeth for all schools across the country that have the discipline. We want to ensure that every school has qualified coaches and referees.

“Percyledge Samugadza and me will be taking the teachers through their paces for the two days. After the training we want to see to it that the sport spreads to all schools in the country,” he said.

Chadeba however said the main challenge has been the shortage of equipment most of which  is imported.

Said the ZKA president: “We’ve had a challenge of penetrating schools because most of the equipment is imported and as such many schools do not have it.

We’ve given the go-ahead to some schools to produce their equipment locally and ZKA will then standardise it.

Schools have at times been forced to use soccer balls because of the shortage of the balls used in the sport.

Chadeba said the association which has very few balls, recently received old balls from Netherlands.
