BULAWAYO artistes Bambelela Arts, Victory Siyanqoba Trust, Kennedy Amos, Ezimnyama Arts Ensemble and Khaya Arts were at the weekend recognised for their immense contribution to HIV/Aids education through song and dance by the National Aids Council of Zimbabwe (Nac).

The artistes were awarded with certificates of recognition by Nac during an awards night held on Saturday at a city hotel.

The awards are a precursor to the World Aids Day national commemorations being held at White City Stadium on December 1.

Khaya Arts director Future Dube said: “We’re happy that people are recognising the efforts we’re making in raising HIV/Aids awareness and education.

This award will spur us to work harder in preparation for the December 1 celebrations.”

He said they were using their play Emgodini to educate people on HIV/Aids.

Ezimnyama, the Chibuku Neshamwari 2017 national champions, said their play, Mr Smart, about educating men and women on HIV/Aids                       prevention, had certainly struck the right chord with the group’s director Phibion Dube saying they were honoured.

“We’re honoured and thank Nac for recognising that we are working hard to help spread the word on HIV/Aids. We shall continue producing more plays like Mr Smart so we keep educating people using our art,” said Dube.

He said they were now preparing for the World Aids Day celebrations.
