MATABELELAND North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cain Mathema has urged organisers of the rebranded Zimbabwe National Youth Games to make full use of his office in order to have successful games.

The resident minister said this while contributing during a technical meeting of the games’ technical directors from the various sport codes at the Little Theatre Hall in Hwange shortly before he officially launched the Games at a colourful ceremony here last night.

After a tour of the games’ facilities that kicked off in Bulawayo early this week, before rolling into Matabeleland North, some directors felt the recommendations which they would make in terms of renovations might not be implemented properly due to the limited time before the games kick off on August 17, citing resources.

There were suggestions especially from tennis to move the code to Bulawayo where there are better facilities.

However, Minister Mathema said he will do everything in his power to make sure such concerns and needs were addressed in order for the games to be a success.

“My office is there, make full use of it. In fact make use of me as the resident minister of this province and let’s see how far we can go.

Some of the fears which you are raising can and will be addressed by and through my office,” said Minister Mathema.

The Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane, had earlier emphasised that Matabeleland North province was the host, noting that there could be challenges here and there but “the bulk of the games must be in this province’.

“We surely can’t just move to Bulawayo for something that needs touch ups, let’s work on those touch ups,” said Minister Hlongwane.
