Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of National Culture and Heritage Minister Abednico Ncube has urged youths to play football, saying they could make a living like the legendary Ndlovu brothers Madinda, Peter and the late Adam.

The Ndlovu siblings are household names in Zimbabwe through their legendary exploits in  football.

Ncube, who donated 120 soccer balls to youths in Gwanda, said academics were not the only highway to success in life as other disciplines like soccer make people excel hence President  Mugabe established the Ministry of Sport and Recreation.

“People have different talents and President Mugabe saw it fit that a Ministry of Sport and Recreation is established. We can’t all do Mathematics. There are others who always hear of Madinda, Peter and Adam from Binga, they learnt football. They played and got employed outside the country. If you go to Bulawayo you will be shown houses belonging to these footballers in the plush suburb of Selborne Park,” said Ncube.

He said with that in mind, he saw it fit to source soccer balls for both women and men for all the eight wards in his Gwanda South constituency.

“I have sourced 120 soccer balls to be distributed among the wards. These are both for women and men’s soccer teams. Each ward will get 15 balls. Give them to the teams so that they play soccer, it will help them,” he said.

Minister Ncube said he would continue to source more sport kits for all disciplines according to the new curriculum.

“We should also play basketball here, table tennis, tennis and swimming in Gwanda South. I have heard of a pupil from this constituency who did wonders at international level. We are proud of that. That’s why we want to promote sport to change our lives,” said.
