Mike Ndudzo

Industrial Development Corporation General Manager Mr Mike Ndudzo has been appointed Auditor-General, taking over from Mrs Mildred Chiri who is stepping down following the expiry of her tenure.

Mr Ndudzo was appointed by President Mugabe in terms of Section 310 (1) of the Constitution.

The section says the Auditor-General is appointed by the President with the approval of Parliament.

Minister of Finance and Economic Development Patrick Chinamasa made the announcement in the National Assembly yesterday while moving a motion seeking Parliament’s approval for Mr Ndudzo’s appointment.

The approval was duly granted.

Mr Ndudzo has been at the helm of IDC since 1991.

He holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree, is a Public Accountant of Zimbabwe and was the first post-independence Accountant General in the Ministry of Finance from 1986 to 1991.

Mrs Chiri was appointed as Comptroller and Auditor-General on February 24, 2004 before the title was changed to Auditor General with the adoption of the current Constitution in 2013.

She had been with the institution since 1983.

She has managed to bring up to date audit reports that had been lagging behind since 2000 and has simplified audit reports to make them understandable to the generality of the people.

She has produced a number of reports that have exposed abuse of funds and resources in Government departments, parastatals and state enterprises, and that have led to efforts to improve corporate governance.

According to Section 310 (3) the term of office for the AG is a period: “of not more than six years and a person must not be appointed as AG after he or she has served for one or more periods, whether continuous or not, amounting to 12 years.”
