“Our aim is to create awareness on the effects of global warming which is causing climatic changes. Miss Zimbabwe Environment will be a platform for us to inform people about the effects of this,” he said.
The pageant will be held in the country’s 10 provinces after which the winners will compete for the big prize.
The winner of the pageant will represent the country internationally where she will compete against  beauties from other nations.

Takundwa said he was working with the Environmental Management Agency and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Management.
“I have met with Minister (Francis) Nhema concerning the pageant and we are also working with EMA on the project. We are trying to reach the young people so that they are also aware of the effects of global warming,” he said.

Takundwa said they wanted young people to play their part as well in the conservation of the planet and its resources.
“The reason why we organised a beauty pageant is to raise awareness on the effects of global warming with a view to taking corrective measures,” he said.
Takundwa said the Miss Zimbabwe Environment contestants both at provincial and national level will take part in a number of projects.

These include planting trees, advocating for the use of recyclable energy, use of biodegradable material and clean up campaigns.
“What we are saying is that people should use material that can decompose. Things such as disposable nappies and plastic bags for packaging should be minimised or stopped. People should also clean up areas after  say musical shows,” he said.

Plastic is non-biodegradable and is one of the worst pollutants on the plant.
Models will also promote healthy diets in their communities.
“We want models who are fit because when you are fit you are free from diseases and you live longer. We want people to go green all the way,” he said.

Takundwa said the pageant will also include a designers competition with the entrants expected to come up with clothing that is environmentally friendly.
“They will be tasked with making clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories that do not affect the planet,” he said.
Takundwa is also a designer.

Leaders around the world have issued a red-alert on the effects of global warming. A number of issues have been discussed in forums around the world such as the reduction of carbon dioxide remission which is also one of the causes of global warming.
Global warming is when the earth’s average temperature rises.  It happens when greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, water vapour, nitrous oxide and methane trap heat and light from the sun in the earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature.

In the last 100 years,  the earth’s average surface temperature increased by about 0.8 °C with about two thirds of the increase occurring over just the last three decades
Global warming affects not only the earth’s temperature but it also has a bearing on the weather as there is an increase in the areas affected by drought, increased tropical cyclone activity, incidence of extreme high sea level, glacier retreat oxygen depletion rise in the ocean temperature, heat waves and many other effects.
