FORMER AmaZulu strongman Costa Nhamoinesu was the only Zimbabwean plying his trade in Europe whose team managed to collect maximum points over the weekend.  The other four Zimbabweans – Vusa Nyoni (Belgium), Marvelous Nakamba (Netherlands), Silas Songani and Quincy Antipas (Denmark) played to draws. Nhamoinesu’s Sparta Praha side in the Czech Republic walloped Hradec Kralove to move to second on the log standings with 16 points.

In the second tier Belgian League, former Highlanders midfielder-cum-leftback Nyoni’s Mons were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Lommel United to remain rooted on eighth position with 12 points from eight matches.

Hobro, home to former Motor Action striker Antipas in Denmark, were also held to a 1-1 draw at home by Esbjerg while Antipas’ countryman in Denmark, former Harare City forward Songani picked up a point away to OB, drawing 1-1.

In the Netherlands, Nakamba’s Vitesse drew 1-1 at home against Heerenveen but the former Highlanders and Bantu Rovers player was not part of the team although he was an unused substitute last weekend.

Former Highlanders coaches now working in Botswana – Madinda Ndlovu, Rahman Gumbo and Philani Mabhena – were in action this weekend with Mabhena the only one recording a loss.

Mabhena’s Sonkoyo Bush Bucks, where he is head coach, lost 1-2 to Extension Gunners and are 12th on the table with six points from as many games.
Gumbo’s Gaborone United emerged 2-1 winners at the expense of Nico United to take their points tally to 10, five points behind leaders Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
Defending champions Township Rollers, under Ndlovu, recorded a hard fought 1-0 win over Notwane.

The champions now have 14 points and lie third on the table, a point behind leaders Centre Chiefs who hammered Paul Moyo’s Botswana Railways Highlanders 4-1.
