POLICE have identified the five people who perished in a road accident that happened along the Cross Dete-Binga Road near Tinde turn-off.

The crash occurred at the 39KM peg at around 7PM on Sunday, killing five on the spot while eight others were injured.

The driver of a Nissan Caravan vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, causing the car to veer off the road.

The Nissan Caravan public service vehicle was travelling along Cross Dete Road towards Binga with 13 passengers on board. The driver is among the dead.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said those who died are Innocent Madondo (27) of Kamativi, Tatenda Felix Hwekwete (24) of Kwekwe, Juma Casper Tumazile (18) of Binga, Naison Siyamchimbe (44) and Cornelius Tshuma (29) of Hwange.

He appealed to members of the public to carry identification particulars at all times.

“Members of the public are encouraged to carry their identity cards or passports when travelling from one point to another. This will help in the identification processes in case of a mishap,” said Chief Supt Nyathi as he urged motorists to avoid speeding and exercise caution when driving to avoid loss of lives.
