An 18-YEAR-OLD Nkayi man allegedly raped his step-sister in a bushy area several times but his family members concealed the incident, a magistrate heard yesterday.

A concerned neighbour reported the matter to a local group, the Child Protection Group.

The teenage man, who cannot be named to protect the victim, appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Sibongile Msipa Marondedze yesterday facing a charge of rape.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to June 9 on free bail.

Prosecuting, Dumisani Ndlovu told the court that on April 3 this year at around 3PM, the girl was at her place of residence when the step-brother grabbed her hand and dragged her into a nearby bush.

“While in the bush, the man ordered the girl to lie down and remove her panties. He then raped the victim three times,” said Ndlovu.

The court heard that the man had previously raped his step-sister on several occasions at the same spot.

“The matter was swept under the carpet by relatives and only came to light when their neighbours alerted the Child Protection Group in the area,” said Ndlovu.

He said members of the Child Protection Group investigated the matter and managed to ascertain that the man had raped his step-sister.

The matter was reported to the police and the girl was taken to Nkayi District Hospital for medical examination.
