TWO men from Nkulumane suburb in Bulawayo have committed suicide in separate incidents, police and a local councillor have confirmed. The identities of both men could not be established immediately, but in the first case, a man hanged himself from a tree in Nkulumane 5 suburb on Monday night following a family dispute.

A source said the man was involved in an argument with his wife on why their children were watching television at a neighbour’s house.

The man allegedly assaulted his wife and children and when the woman went to report the matter to the police, he phoned her to tell her where he was going to kill himself.

When his wife went to the scene with the police, he was already dead.

Bulawayo Metropolitan Province police spokesperson, Inspector Precious Simango, confirmed the incident.

“We received a report of sudden death by suicide. The couple was in a dispute and after she went to report to police, they found the man dead. Investigations are underway,” she said.

In the second incident, another man was found hanging from a tree in a bushy area in Sizinda suburb yesterday morning. A councillor from Nkulumane said the man was also from Nkulumane suburb.

Ward 22 councillor, Rodney Jele, said it was tragic to lose two men in the suburb, both to suicide.

“Clearly, residents need to be educated on seeking counselling and finding other ways of solving disputes. A problem shared is a problem half solved, and so I advise residents to lean on leaders, friends and family as suicide is never a solution,” said Jele.
