FC Platinum will this year stay put in Zvishavane for their pre-season preparations.

Last year the platinum miners spent close to three weeks in Kariba working on physical conditioning, tactics and team building.

But the effort could only land a top four finish despite the investment by management and parent company, Mimosa.

The miners’ spokesperson Chido Chizondo said this year they they were pleased with the facilities and environment at their disposal in Zvishavane hence the decision to stay put.

“We will do all our preparations in Zvishavane because we have excellent facilities,” said Chizondo.

Meanwhile, FC Platinum, Zimbabwe’s representatives in this year’s African Caf Confederation Cup will play host to Power Dynamos of Zambia in an international friendly at Mandava on Saturday.

Chizondo confirmed this yesterday.

She said the match would be part of the club’s preparations for the 2015 season in which they open their African Safari account with a fixture against Sofapaka of Kenya next month. It will be in the preliminary round stages of the contest and the match against Power Dynamos is the first of many they could play against both local and foreign opposition.

“Power Dynamos are also taking part in the Caf Confederation Cup and are preparing like ourselves. It would be good measure of competition to play against them at Mandava Stadium,” said Chizondo.

Their opponents who are coached by former Hwange and FC Platinum coach Tennant Chilumba, have been drawn to face Khartoum Football Club of Sudan.

FC Platinum under former league championship winner Norman Mapeza re-grouped last week on Thursday to start work for 2015.

The team seems to have the right balance for the domestic season with both bubbling youth and tried and tested players.
