‘No hard feelings against Mugabe ‘

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

Felex Share, Harare Bureau
President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday said he had no hard feelings against former President Cde Robert Mugabe, as he believes most decisions he took during his last days in power were not of his own making.

The Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces said Cde Mugabe was being influenced by G40 criminals who took advantage of his advanced age.

President Mnangagwa said he was in constant touch with the former leader.

He made the revelations during a town hall meeting with youths in Harare.

The dialogue was organised by Global Shapers Community, a network of young people driving dialogue, action and change.

Asked by interviewer Vimbai Kajese about his relationship with Cde Mugabe, President Mnangagwa said: “I am here because for the last 54 years he was holding my hand. To me he is my father, mentor, icon, revolutionary leader, but time comes when he gets influenced because, I believe, of age.

“Somebody described people who surrounded him as criminals. So, I do not believe that some of the actions made at the 11th hour were genuinely his own.”

President Mnangagwa said to vindicate that criminals had circled Cde Mugabe, the former leader seemed not to recall that he had fired him as Vice President.

He said Cde Mugabe pleaded with him to return “direct to State House” when he told him that he had fled to South Africa fearing for his life.

“I realised that things were not what I used to know,” President Mnangagwa said. “As a result of that, I have no ill feelings at all towards former President Mugabe. I chat with him.”

President Mnangagwa said instead of getting worried, he felt pity for those who attacked him during the Presidential Youth Interface Rallies.

“Of the nine rallies, we began in Mashonaland East,” he said, responding to how he felt during the rallies. “As we went on, it became slightly harder, slightly troublesome and as we went on it became very worrying.

“I really thought that those who were making accusations on me or some of my colleagues like (George) Charamba were ignorant of who I was and who Charamba was. They also had a perception created outside our actual persons and they misunderstood us.

“If a person misunderstands, you pity him. You do not get worried. So, I was not worried, because I was misunderstood.”

President Mnangagwa said he had since put behind the past and was focusing on unity and development.

“In my inauguration speech, I spoke about reconciliation,” he said. “I spoke about bygones being bygones, meaning there is nothing we can do about the past. Those things have happened.

“The acts of omission and commission which happened in the past, yes, in some areas we get to learn lessons from what has happened, but let us put that behind us because we will not live it again. My message as we go forward is let us preach love, love, unity, unity always.”

President Mnangagwa added: “We are all Zimbabweans, let us accept each other. I believe that every single Zimbabwean, young or old, rich or poor, tall or shot, blind or with eyesight has a role to play and is an important person to bring our nation forward. My appeal is let us look into the future, that is the only space we can improve.”

The dialogue meeting was attended by Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, Cabinet Ministers, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda and other senior Government officials.

Dialoguing in Zimbabwe is reserved only for ZANU-related meetings/organizations, yet its not supposed to be like that. All citizens emakhaya, emalokitshini should be allowed to meet , and discuss any subject , without fear , without CIOs , thats what we fought for; To Be Free, yet all haveseen what ZANU pf has done to the country. Some ZANU supporters are even surprised that Mgabe did put his hand into the cookie jar- The Finance Pockets of govt and helped himself and his family to our monies. He is human , like ED is , not a God. So fools who folow ZANU must get rid of this god-making of human beings. Revelations now show what evils the ministers , ZANU and all who lead parastatas have done . Chiyangwa, Cuthert of ZIFA wh earned UDS400 000/00/MONTH and never arrested. Freedom Human Rights and respect By Government departments of the Rule of Law are a MUST. ED wastes resources trying to woe foreign investors to invest in a country with draconian laws , evila laws which suppress/oppress citizens, what more foreigners. He must firt free us , then investors will be free to come and invest here. Charity starts at home wena ED. Ulezakho futhgi izindaba ezikulindile , uzibotshwa

Somebody was fighting you, or lets say outright beating you, then he stops and goes away. But you continue fighting the ground where he was standing, hitting it hard ngenduku!?? Xola Baba, what has happened has happened. Those who died have died, we can’t ressurrect them. Life was lived that way in the past, it’s up to us the living to change the way of life. Do you know the EVIL that Mzilikazi, Lobhengula and the KwaZulu makororo caused the inhabitants of this country? Do you know how these nameless people, the Ncubes, Dubes, Ndlovus, Sibandas etc came into being? Do you know the EVIL that Cecil John Rhodes and his fellow British thugs did to our forefathers, fathers and indeed some of the living today? But should we continue sitting down and cry over spilt milk/blood, doing nothing all day long, waiting for the day of vengeance? Vengeance belongs to the Lord (Deut. 32 vs 35). Ngwena is the biblical Saul turned Paul. Vote Ngwena 2018.

the farther backward you can look, the farther forward you can see.

        • THE TRUTH

That “farther backward” they look is just a ruse to silence the Gukurahundi discussions. Its a case of the GUILTY BEING AFRAID.

They know very well that its now impossible to deal with tribal wars and the Cecil John issues, for lack of culprits, witnesses and victims. They also know that the Gukurahundi culprits are around – but because of their own disadvantaged situation on tribal wars – they would rather everything is buried.

But what always puzzles me are these Shona people who seem to speak on behalf of the ZANU PF culprits – I have never understood what their vested interest in this is all about, since they are not even the culprits here!!

Gukurahundi has to be attended to because it is only 35 years old. That is why the culprits and victims’ relatives are still alive. Its because its very recent.

Tribal wars are 200 years old – that is why nobody talks about them in Southern Africa, except the Shona people of Zimbabwe, who have been manipulated for political divide and rule purposes by Shona Politicians like Mugabe. Go to Lesotho, Swaziland, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia – nobody talks about tribal wars. Its only in Zimbabwe.

Tribal wars have no living culprits, no living witnesses and no living victims. So, where do you even begin, even if we wanted to?

pity you and the rest who want to give Mgabe’s dulicate ED a chance . Funny that you do not see that they are the same, were always together , made things together whilst Mgabe was able-minded , with you probably celebrating the murders and milking of the economy to this stage. i mention here all evils done and you conveniently mention gugurahundi, and leave out the bleeding economy. what kind of comment is that? dont crush what others say here, rather comment on all of it , not selectively. Awulamali, you queue for nothing , you pay exhorbitant prices , ED was there from the begining of the crimes. you do not mention that. Also like someone tells you down here, why are you concerned when Gugurahundi victims ask for Justice?why are you equating Gugurahundi actions as similar to Tribal wars of yester centuries? why? why are you worried, were you or relatives part of the murderous army then? Tribal wars were all over the world’ with civilization human beings became intelligen t and stopped, now some like you equate those times with today, is it conveniencing your lot brother? are you a beneficiary of all the tribalism implemented by ZANU after independence? Do you agree that ZANU was biased agains’t the Matebeles and put Shona people in the Civil Service in the region? If i want to live in Manicaland i have to be Manica in language behavior and Ubuntu, yet you sound like a colonialist who is surprised when a victim is saying he is oppressed. The wihiotes said we were all ok under them yet they denied us the franchise to choose leaders. Now you support thje same system. Shonas are afraid that if Mthwakazi region is given to locals to run in all Govt depts, they will lose jobs. Well if you lose a job you got unfairly , is it bad.

What Manicaland are you talking about? This country never had such segregatory names before the coming of foreigners. There was no Karangaland, Zezuruland, Manyikaland etc. All our people were one and one could move from place to place, as long as one didn’t get to a place and want to rule, which is a problem with foreigners in our western region. We understood and still understand that mwana washe muranda kumwe, ie. a prince is only a prince in his father’s kingdom, when he has moved to other kingdoms he becomes a commoner. Accept that and live peacefully in Mutapa Empire, there is no imaginary Mthwakaziland between the Zambezi and the Limpopo.

Of course there can not be any hard feelings ….. after all they’re of the same mold. There was just the need for the one to implements his ambitions in becoming No.1, after which relations between the two returned to normal. Ever considered why Mr ex-No1 and his garrulous wife, together their various categories of baggage, human and other, have been given immunity from prosecution. They are still living very well, while new legislation has been hastily crafted and enforced, that protects their ill-gotten proceeds from being confiscated.
