TWO people who died in a National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) elevator last Friday, will be buried today at West Park Cemetery in Bulawayo.

Investigations leading to the elevator’s crash are yet to be concluded.

Officials at Schindler, the company that services the NRZ lifts, declined to speak to The Chronicle yesterday.

“Investigations are still underway and we’re not at liberty to disclose any information to the media,” said the official who hung up before the end of the interview.

Elizabeth Mlangeni, a worker at the railway company and an elevator technician from Schindler, Kevin Musina died on Friday after a lift crash-landed in the city’s tallest building, killing the pair.

Mlangeni’s brother Medicine Mhango said they had made burial arrangements for today.

“She is going to be buried tomorrow at West Park Cemetery. We’ve already placed a notice in The Chronicle bereavement section,” said Mhango yesterday.

Musina’s brother, Judia said Kevin would also be buried today at the same cemetery.

He expressed gratitude to the community for supporting the family during the difficult period.

“Burial is scheduled for 11AM at West Park. I would like to thank our community for the condolence messages we’ve been receiving during our time of bereavement,” he said.

Musina said caution should be exercised on the country’s elevators.

“This accident must be taken as an eye opener to authorities. They should seriously ensure security is tightened in the lifts. By security I mean they should maintain a record of who was in and out of the elevator,” he said.

The National Social Security Authority (NSSA), which is responsible for ensuring the country’s lifts are safe, had not responded to written questions from The Chronicle by the time of going to print.
