THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has disbanded Zifa Southern Region division one outfit Ntabazinduna as well as Zifa Northern Region division one season campaigners Flame Lily.

Players from the two clubs have been seconded to Zifa Central Soccer League side Whawha and Zifa Eastern Region division one side Tenax which are also under the armpit of ZPCS.

The move is part of the prisons’ authority broader strategy to channel resources to fewer teams so that they have at least one team playing in the topflight league.

Whawha chairperson Musa Ntonga confirmed the developments and said her club is gearing up for the new season where they are gunning for the championship.

She said: “The disbanding of Flame Lily and Ntabazinduna was part of the strategic move by ZPCS management to have two teams in Division One leagues where there would be one in the Southern Region of the country and the other one in the Northern Region. Therefore Whawha and Tenax are the two clubs that would be bankrolled by ZPCS.”

“As Whawha we have started our preparations for the new season which are going on well. We have beefed up our squad with other players who came from Flame Lily and Ntabazinduna and we are targeting the championship hoping that we will return into the Premiership next year,” said Ntonga.

Last year ZPCS Commissioner General Retired Major General Paradzai Zimondi announced  plans to nurture a club under its stable where resources will be channeled for it to play in the Premiership in the 2018 season.

He said ZPCS  had learnt from their mistakes and were in the process of identifying  a club which they would channel resources to for a quick return to the  topflight league.

“We have learnt from our mistakes after two of our clubs were  relegated from the Premier League. Now we are looking at building one  team for the Prisons and Correctional Service and we want to maintain  it in the Premier League.

Whawha and Flame Lily were part of the PSL during the 2015 season but  were relegated after only a season’s flirtation with the topflight  league.
