MAMELODI Sundowns communications co-ordinator Thulani Thuswa is impressed with veteran Esrom Nyandoro’s performance at the weekend in a Gauteng tournament.Four clubs took part in the event.

The four teams that locked horns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria were Moroka Swallows, Sundowns, SuperSport United and Pretoria University.

SuperSport United eventually won the tournament beating Sundowns 4-3 on penalties in a thrilling final.

In the preliminary matches Sundowns demolished Swallows 5-0 and United beat city rivals Pretoria University on penalties.

Thuswa told Chronicle Sport: “We played good football even though we lost at the end but it was fantastic for all the players who took part and also good for the coach Pitso Mosimane to find his right combinations.

“Watching all our players playing such attractive and entertaining football in front of their supporters after a long break gave us some confidence that they will be behind the team when we start our official games’ programme.”

Thuswa said he was happy to watch one of the team’s veterans Nyandoro playing beautiful football. He acknowledged that at 34 the player was still competent.

“We still need his experience and services as the team will be competing in crucial games including in the Caf Champions League,” Thuswa said.

Nyandoro is the only Zimbabwean who participated in the tournament as he played in the final game which they lost to United.

Other Zimbabweans in the Brazilians squad are Nyasha Mushekwi, Cuthbert Malajila and Khama Billiat who are out injured, Method Mwanjali, busy with his permanent residence papers, Kudakwashe Mahachi who will be joining the team today and team manager Peter Ndlovu.

In another charity final match played at Milpark Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday Bloemfontein Celtic walloped Tapuwa Kapini and Carlington Nyandombo’s AmaZulu 2-0 in the final.
