NOKEL Security Southern Region Soccer League April Top Goal Scorer of the Month winner Lungile Nyathi failed to inspire his Amagagasi outfit to victory against Casmyn, playing to a 0-0 draw at Turk Mine.

Nyathi who received his $150 prize money from Nokel Security director Kenneth Mhlophe, came in as a second half substitute but could not do much to change the complexion of the game as Casmyn played a game of their lives.

“We’re relieved to walk away with a point as it’s always tricky playing Casmyn at their backyard. Because we’re at the top of the table, every team raises their game when they face us and they all want to be the first to beat us.

“We can’t despair because of a draw because we knew that at some point we would drop points but what’s important is to build from here,” said the Amagagasi coach Zibonele Ncube.

The draw left Amagagasi’s lead reduced to four points following Bantu Rovers’ fifth consecutive win of the season, beating Ntabazinduna 3-0.

Amagagasi sit at the top with 19 points from seven matches while Rovers who moved from third to second are on 15 points and have a game in hand.

Rovers’ ascendency was due to Bulawayo Chiefs’ inactivity, with the latter given a month to recover before resuming matches following a road accident that left the bulk of their players injured on their way to Victoria Falls last week.

Rovers, tied on 15 points with perennial campaigners ZPC Hwange who are third on the table with an inferior goal difference, got their three goals against Ntabazinduna from Fortune Nkomazana, Joshua Wilson and Crispen Dube.

Nkomozana is Rovers’ leading scorer with five goals in seven outings, two behind the league’s top marksman Nhlanhla Ndlovu of Amagagasi.

Rovers’ coach Johannes Ngodzo praised his charges and said they are still working out on their combinations.

“Ours is always work in progress. We’re building and correcting mistakes with every passing game. I’m happy that in the process the players are starting to understand the philosophy and we’re moving towards a positive direction. We will continue working hard,” said Ngodzo.

Talen Vision recorded their second victory against Makomo who they beat 2-1 in Bulawayo, getting their goals from Godknows Sibanda and Godwill Ndlovu while Makomo’s consolation came from Raymond Tangai.

Two goals by Justin Kaunda and Tyson Muzamba were enough to secure ZPC Hwange maximum points against town rivals ZRP Hwange at the weekend.
