in the final on Saturday evening.
It was a very exciting and tough match for both teams as they reached full-time with the match tied 33-33.
Just like in the final between the two sides last year, the match had to be settled in extra-time. The teams were evenly balanced for the greater part of regulation time but the game turned into a scrappy affair in extra-time.
Harare Sports Club were the first to score a try in the first minute of the extra time.
But OGs came back and eventually took the tie. In the curtain raiser, Old Hararians beat Old Miltonians 33-12.
Old Boys’ coach Maxi Madziva was pleased with his club’s performance.
“The boys played very well, the forwards were much more controlled than in last week’s match,” said Madziva.
In the other curtain raiser, Old Hararians women also retained their title after dismissing Harare Sports Club 17-0 in the final.
Charity Mukukutu scored their first try in the first three minutes of the match.
Lucia Marisamhuka and Shingisai Kadye also contributed to the OH victory by scoring two tries and a conversion.
“We have never lost a game since I joined the team,” said Mukukutu.
“I have been playing for my club for over four years and it has never been hard for us to beat Harare Sports Club.
“We had new players in our team but that did not stop us from winning, we still played as a team and got a trophy,” said Mucucuti.
National Rugby League president Noddy Kanyangarara said that the just ended season had its highlights.
“This season was a lot better in terms of everything, the calendar, the administration and officiating everything was good.” said Kanyangarara.
