MATABELELAND Rugby Football Board (MRFB) giants Old Miltonians and Western Panthers’ rivalry showdown will close off the Under-21 Cup in style today. The two rivals meet in the final. The tourney that had all the region’s four teams, had been running for the past four weeks under the round robin format with Panthers and Miltonians finishing as top and second respectively hence the final clash.

Bulldogs and Matabeleland Warriors will battle it out for the third place finish.
However it seems the writing is already on the wall for Old Miltonians as they were convincingly hammered 0-36 by Panthers last week.

The Warriors also have an upper edge on Bulldogs as they cruised to a resounding 64-16 victory in last week’s showdown.

MRFB development coordinator George Mukorera said they were looking forward to the finals adding that they were already working on another massive competition.

“The curtain will finally come down tomorrow and we are happy that it went well without any major glitches.

It really benefited us a lot as it gave the juniors game time and exposure and we are already organising another tourney of such magnitude and everyone must expect it in the near future because it is what we need for development,” said Mukorera.

The Matabeleland Rugby Football Board Cup was introduced early this month by the MRFB as atonement for the Zimbo Cup which failed to kickoff this year due to unspecified reasons.

The Zimbo Cup was supposed to be held in the first week of January but the preparations kept on dragging until the Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) pushed them to suspend the cup and hold a new event in accordance with their calendar which stated that the board must hold two events before the Under-20 World Cup kicked off.
