ZIMBABWE born singer – Jeremy Olivier last week impressed judges at The Voice South Africa singing competition with a rendition of Oliver Mtukudzi’s hit Neria.

After the enthralling performance aired on Mnet (DStv channel 101), Olivier who was born in Chinhoyi, dedicated the song to his mother as it reminded him of his childhood.  Olivier enthused the audience with local followers of the show encouraging fellow Zimbabweans to rally behind him by voting.

“Best day of my life!!! Getting to perform with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and then performing a song so close to my heart to honour my mom on Mother’s Day, and honouring my dad’s memory all at the same time!! All on live TV on The Voice SA stage,” posted Olivier after the show last Sunday.

“Thank you Lira for believing in me and everyone who made this moment possible. Now, it’s time for you guys to vote. Zimbabweans and all other Africans, you can vote too! I want to go all the way in this competition.”

Four talented singers are one step closer to clinching more than R800,000 worth of prizes, a recording contract with Universal Music South Africa and the honour of being named the first winner of The Voice SA. The support of the voting public will determine which one of the remaining singers from each coach’s team will join Richard, Zoë, Gavin and Thembeka in next week’s live show, the week before the final on May 22.

Voting is open every Sunday. To vote, one has to visit the competition’s website – www.thevoicesa.dstv.com/vote or Mobi site www.thevoicesa.dstv.com/vote. Alternatively, people can use WeChat (ID: Mnettv).

Olivier ventured into music at the age of 14 and after completing his A-Levels in Harare, he decided to pursue music further. He moved to Cape Town where he obtained a Bachelor of Music Honours in jazz performance from the University of Cape Town’s College of Music.

According to The Voice website each season begins with the “Blind Auditions,” where coaches form their team of artistes whom they mentor through the remainder of the season. In the final live performance phase of the competition, artistes perform in weekly shows, where public voting narrows to a final group of artistes and eventually declares a winner. The coaches have the power to save one artiste that had not received the public’s vote that week.
