CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League leaders Chicken Inn provide the bulk of the players called up by Warriors coach Callisto Pasuwa to face Lesotho in an African Nations Championships qualifier at Barbourfields Stadium on October 18. The Gamecocks have five players, goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, defender Lawrence Mhlanga, midfielders Tafadzwa Kutinyu, Danny Phiri and striker Edmore Chirambadare.

The call-up by the history-making former Dynamos gaffer also saw Highlanders left back Bruce Kangwa getting a recall to the national colours since he asked to be excused from the 2014 Chan squad under Ian Gorowa as he enjoyed his honeymoon. Kangwa links up with his Bosso teammates Teenage Hadebe and Nqobizitha Ncube who were also called up.

Another player making a return to national colours is Dynamos’ Rodreck Mutuma, who is enjoying a good run since retracing his roots to DeMbare. Hwange provide two players, goalkeeper Takabva Mawaya and striker Pritchard Mpelele while How Mine have goalkeeper Donovan Bernard. Zimbabwe has to beat Lesotho in order to be part of the final draw on November 18 before the final roars into life from January 16 to February 7, 2016 in Rwanda.

Chan is exclusively for players who are active in the national championships in Africa. The Warriors have never missed a Chan Championship having been to the inaugural edition in Ivory Coast in 2009 under Sunday Chidzambwa and then with Madinda Ndlovu in Sudan in 2011.

On both occasions, the Warriors failed to progress to the knockout stages. In the last edition in South Africa in 2014, the Warriors, under Gorowa managed to finish fourth after losing to eventual winners Libya.
