Simon’s best-selling Graceland album, is not a happy man.
Recently he was seething with anger when he received reports that Simon was organising a concert for musicians who featured on Graceland.
Shirinda said he was not contacted about Simon’s arrival in South Africa. He was snubbed again when the man he has dubbed the “international music pirate” organised all the singers who contributed to the album to sing at one concert.
“Simon must know that I am alive and furious,” Shirinda said.
The 75-year old musician recently received a Living Legend Award from the Limpopo government.
In 1986 Simon included a track by Shirinda from the 1985 album, Xikumakumani, on Graceland and renamed it I Know What I Know.
The Limpopo musician was furious that when Simon embarked on the Graceland Tour he did not bother to contact the man known as “General”.
His track was performed by Ray Phiri of Stimela.
Since his arrival in South Africa, Simon has kept a low profile.
But when Shirinda heard the news, he was angry because he and The Gaza Sisters still perform live and have not looked back since the time they performed at venues like the Jabulani Amphitheatre in Soweto in 1976.
“Simon must know that nobody should represent me while I am still alive,” he said. – Sowetan.
