PRINCE EDWARD School were in top form when they dismissed Gateway 16-12 in the Under20 Petra Invitational Schools Basketball tournament at the weekend.
The tournament took place at Petra High School in Bulawayo and attracted 12 different schools from all over the country.
In their first match, Prince Edward beat Christian Brothers College 1511 before dismissing Masiyephambili 2724.
They went on to play Founders High School and won 1513.
In the semifinals, Gateway thrashed Lomagundi 258 to set up a thrilling final against Prince Edward.
Gandi eventually lost to the Tigers 1612 in an exciting match.
Prince Edward player Patrick Nambulo was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament while Josiah Sachiti was the highest scorer, contributing 67 points in all the matches.
“We played very well especially against Gateway.
“Our boys were short in stature compared to the Gateway players but they were very fast and managed to come out tops.
“We are proud of the boys and we keep on encouraging them to continue working hard,” said Sledge Chinyoka, the Prince Edward School’s teacherincharge.
Prince Edward have also managed to keep their heads high in the league after collecting maximum points in five matches.
They beat St George’s College, Churchill, Heritage, Mufakose 2 High and Eaglesvale.
“We won all our matches except the one against St John’s College,” said Chinyoka.
Prince Edward are expected to play their last league game at home today against Gateway.
