THE much awaited and hyped debut show by Ma1 hit-maker Peekay at Club Forty-40 on Friday night was a damp squib as he performed for 25 uninspiring minutes leaving revellers angry and feeling short changed.
Peekay and his entourage arrived at the venue at exactly 12:20 AM and were off the stage at 12:45AM and only performed three tracks.
The hip hop artiste came in from behind the audience and made the crowd go into frenzy. He performed his first track Kwakumberi which he continued to repeat several times, followed by Show me love a song that features Jamaican reggae/dancehall artiste Busy Signal and lastly his hit track Ma1.

In between his performances, Peekay gave away CD’s and T-shirts a trick that kept the fans on their feet as they gathered around the hip hop star in pursuit to receive the giveaways.

After performing his three songs, Peekay went around the club taking pictures with the fans who were in the venue and barely did they know that this was their last time of seeing the artiste before he went away.

Chronicle Showbiz had the chance to talk to Peekay a few minutes after he came from his performance said he was going back on stage as he usually performs three songs before he returns for another performance time.

“I am going back to the stage in no time, I perform three tracks then I rest so right now I’m still assessing my crowd before I go back,” he said.

The audience only realised that Peekay was not coming back on stage after an hour when DJ Mzoe took over the decks to save the day.
Rumours were doing the rounds  at the club that Peekay was well on his way back to Harare.

Club Forty-40 entertainment manager DJ Mzoe expressed disappointment in Peekay’s performance as he said it was unfortunate that fans were given a short performance due to the fact that the artiste was not yet used to the crowd in Bulawayo.

“It’s unfortunate that Peekay has to give his fans that short performance. It was his first time of performing at Forty-40 and in Bulawayo and he is not yet used to the crowd here,” he said.

Repeated efforts yesterday to get a comment from Peekay were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered and his manager’s mobile phone was off.
