A PILOT from Bulawayo has been ordered to pay $630 monthly for the upkeep of his two children.

Fortune Chitete was, on Thursday, dragged to the maintenance court by his wife Deliwe who was demanding $1,075 to maintain the couple’s two children aged 14 and 9.

Deliwe told magistrate Manasa Musiiwa that her husband is a pilot at Fly Alpha Aviation and although she does not know the exact amount he earns, he could afford to pay the money.

She said one of her children is diabetic and requires access to medical aid.

But Fortune told the court his wife was asking for too much.

“I earn $1,700 per month but I also pay school fees for both my children who are enrolled at a private school.” he said.

Fortune said he could afford to assist with money for his child’s medication as he has always been doing that.

He offered to pay $600 as maintenance saying his wife should share the responsibility of taking care of the children.

“If I give anything more than that then it means she won’t be contributing anything towards our children,” Fortune said.

Magistrate Musiiwa ruled that he pays $630 every month to maintain his two children.
