One of the leading rigid plastic packaging suppliers in Southern Africa, Polyoak, is expected to set up a factory in Ruwa to maximise its presence on the local market.

The investment is, however , still subject to approvals from the government.

Industry and Commerce Minister Mike Bimha yesterday told our sister paper, Herald Business that the company has expressed its intention to set up a factory in Ruwa.

“Yes, I can confirm that Polyoak which is a leading South African packaging manufacturer will set up its factory in Ruwa and the government is currently seized with the matter. Once we give the greenlight I’m sure that is when they will disclose their investment package towards the project.”

Polyoak supplies packaging mostly to dairy companies.

The investment by the company was first hinted at by Alpha Omega Dairies, general manager Stanley Nhari who said the local dairy would consider partnering the South African Company if an opportunity arose.

Established in 1976, Polyoak Packaging is one of the leading rigid plastic packaging suppliers in Southern Africa.

It specialises in the manufacture and design of thermoformed, blow, injection and compression moulded plastic packaging for the dairy, beverage, foods and industrial sectors.

The company’s manufacturing operations and distribution centres are in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, East London and Namibia. Sales and distribution centres are in all other major South African cities.

Last year South African packaging company Nampak consolidated its Zimbabwe businesses for them to be run under one entity. The businesses included wholly owned CarnaudMetalbox Box and two associates Hunyani Holdings (38,91 percent interest) and Megapak Zimbabwe (49 percent interest).
