PLATINUM Warriors successfully defended the annual Matabeleland Rugby Football Board (MRFB) Sevens championship after beating Highlanders 21-10 in the final played at Hartsfield ground on Saturday.

MRFB board member in charge of development Martin Shone hailed the level of competition at the tournament, which he described as an incredible outing.

“Participating teams really put up impressive performances on the field. It was good to see lowly ranked teams such as Bulldogs and Nust showing a great deal of improvement in their play. It was evident from the way they played that if more work is done with them, they will improve further. The talent was evident and the game has improved in a big way,” Shone said.

Platinum Warriors faced Bulldogs in the first semi-final and emerged 47-0 victors to book a place in the final.

The other semi-final was a tightly contested duel between Highlanders and Old Miltonians, which Bosso took 5-0, to set up an explosive final with the defending champions.

The final produced some thrills and Warriors emerged victors.

Bulldogs edged Nust 19-12 in the bowl final in another exciting encounters on the day.
