POLICE are hunting for three men accused of hitting a Lower Gweru man with knobkerries, before fatally axing him on the head. Vusa Ncube (33) died due to suspected head injuries following a misunderstanding with a fellow villager over a bucket which the deceased had allegedly borrowed to use in watering his garden. Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said Bongani Sibanda teamed up with two other accomplices and fatally attacked Ncube after he did not get a satisfactory explanation why the deceased was not giving him back his bucket.

He said last week on Thursday, Ncube was drinking beer at Madanike Village in the morning when Sibanda asked him about his bucket and he failed to account for it. This did not go down well with Sibanda and a misunderstanding arose resulting in a fight between the two.

They were however allegedly restrained by members of the public and Sibanda left.

“After some time, the three accused persons, Bongani Sibanda, Bothwell Sondo and the other one only identified as MuNdebele teamed up and assaulted Ncube with knobkerries several times. They went on to strike him on the head with a small axe and he fell on the ground and was unconscious,” said Insp Goko.

He said Ncube sustained injuries on the head and other parts of the body leading to his death and the trio fled. After realising that Ncube had died, his friends he had been drinking beer with reported the matter to the police.

Insp Goko appealed to anyone with information on the whereabouts of the three murder suspects to report to the nearest police station. He urged members of the public to solve their differences amicably and to seek the help of third parties in the event of a misunderstanding.
