The four died when the Zupco bus they were travelling in was swept away while trying to cross a flooded Musavezi River.  The incident happened at around 3AM near Mukandapi Business Centre, about 30km outside Shurugwi town along the Shurugwi-Mandamabwe road.

On board the Zupco bus were 28 passengers, most of them cross-border traders. The bus was travelling from Messina in South Africa heading for Gokwe Town.

The accident occurred after the tarred road on both sides of the Musavezi River bridge was washed away by the incessant rains that have been falling in most parts of the country.

Traffic travelling from Shurugwi to Mhandamabwe and Masvingo is now using the longer Zvishavane route.
