POLICE have arrested a number of suspects and recovered various goods and property following a spate of robberies that occurred in Bulawayo.
Police spokesperson for Bulawayo province Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said Simon Dundwayo 31 of Iminyela suburb appeared at Western Commonage court where he was remanded in custody to April 24 in connection with some of the offences.
Police have since recovered some of the stolen items.

“We arrested Dundwayo and he is facing eight counts of unlawful entry of which two cases were committed in Pumula suburb while six cases were committed in Nkulumane,” said Moyo.

Among others, Dundwayo is accused of breaking into a house and stealing two boxes containing 24 green bars, 2 by 20 green bar soaps, 6 by 2-litre cooking oil, 6 by 750ml salad cream, 2 by tablet PC cellphone and 18 dressed chickens. All this property was worth $837 and nothing was recovered.

He is also said to have used a metal bar to open a door at at a house in Nkulumane 12. He took four men’s suits, a DVD player, Teledex 21-inch colour television, 950 watts generator, 7 pairs of ladies shoes, 15 water glasses, two 2 in 1 blankets and a metal dish.

The police spokesperson also said law enforcement agents also arrested Brighton Mahlangu, 38, Prosper Moyo, 24, and Perfect Sibanda, 22, who all lived in Hyde Park in connection with a series of robberies that took place in Bulawayo since last year November.

Insp Moyo said the three serial robbers were arrested after a tip off by members of the public who informed the police that the crew was selling stolen goods.
“The syndicate sometime in November went to Mpopoma and stole a tyre at a parked car. The tyre cost $110. On January 19 at around 8PM the trio went to Pelandaba West and broke into a parked vehicle. They took away a jack, fire extinguisher, 18 spanners and screw drivers, 1 hammer, hacksaw and a soldering iron,” he said.

Insp Moyo added that the trio on the same day proceeded to Pelandaba West and stole from a parked car four tyres worth $800 of which everything was recovered.
On  March11this year, the syndicate went to Pelandaba West and opened the bonnet of a parked car and stole a car battery and charger worth $120.

“I want to thank the community for assisting the police with information that has led to the arrest of these thieves. I would like to urge everyone who lost their property through unlawful entry to visit Western Commonage Central Investigation Department (CID), Nkulumane CID and Hillside CID so that they can identify their property” Moyo said.
