Bloemfontein — As the year draws to an end, political parties have extended their warm and, in some cases, “revolutionary” wishes to the people of South Africa.

The African National Congress, Economic Freedom Fighters, Democratic Alliance and the Inkatha Freedom Party reflected on the year in their Christmas messages.

“The African National Congress wishes all South Africans celebrating Christmas a blissful and memorable one. We extend our well wishes to all compatriots for a prosperous new year.

“The year 2015 was a year of increased and patriotic activism that saw the Freedom Charter occupying the public discourse and engagement,” said spokesperson Zizi Kodwa.

The EFF wished the country a “revolutionary Christmas”.

“The EFF wishes all the people of South Africa, the continent and the world a revolutionary Christmas. We call on all to embrace the revolutionary spirit of generosity that comes with Christmas and ensure that no one goes hungry on this important day,” said spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

“May the poor, unemployed and homeless find comfort in the golden principles and practices of good neighbourliness that scripture teaches — above all, may children and the elderly not be forgotten, but be part of all the festivities.”

The IFP said it was a time to recuperate from the fatigue of the year.

“We hope that these holidays will fill your life with happy and festive moments,” said IFP leader in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Blessed Gwala.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance said citizens should reflect on, and celebrate, the year that has passed.

“May it be a time of renewal, in which we renew our commitment to the Christian values of kindness, generosity, and consideration for others – may it be a time spent with loved one, said party leader Mmusi Maimane. — AFP
