Talen Vision 0-0 ZRP Bulawayo

BULAWAYO-based referee Mandla Sibanda made a number of questionable decisions that spoiled a rather entertaining Southern Region Division One Soccer League match between Talen Vision and ZRP Bulawayo at Raylton Sports Club yesterday.

Sibanda had a good first half but lost it in the second stanza when he allowed rough tackles from either sides to fly-in, compensated the wrongs from one side with the other, spoiling an entertaining derby that Vision dominated.

Coaches from both sides declined to comment about Sibanda’s questionable decisions with wasteful Vision happy with the point.

“The lads played well and we created more scoring chances than our opponents but poor finishing cost us maximum points. We’re happy with the point and we just have to work on our finishing,” said Juma Phiri, Vision’s manager.

The point took Vision two points up the ladder to position nine with 20 points.

ZRP Bulawayo remained stuck at position six with 24 points.

The police side might end the weekend on position seven in the event that eighth placed Indlovu Iyanyathela who are on 22 points beat Makomo this afternoon in Hwange.

There are also exciting weekend matches with second on the table ZPC Hwange declaring their intentions of taking the title race to the wire following last weekend’s 1-0 win against a physical Black Boots in Hwange.

The electricity generators, second on the table with 41 points from 19 matches and trail leaders Bulawayo Chiefs who have two games in hand by six points, face Amagagasi in Victoria Falls tomorrow.

They will bank on former Chiefs’ striker Qinani Sibanda who joined them during the midseason window and scored the priceless goal.

“At this stage what is important is to fight for the points, push hard, suck all the pressure and see where you are at the end of the season. It’s unfortunate that we are not where we want to be (at the top) but what is important is for us to keep pushing and take the title race to the wire. Amagagasi might be at the bottom of the table but they remain tricky opponents,” said ZPC Hwange coach, Njabulo Dube.

ZPC Hwange need to win all their remaining games and hope that other teams stop runaway leaders Chiefs.

Chiefs need 16 points from nine games to reach an unassailable 63 points to lift the Southern Region Division One Soccer League title. ZPC Hwange can end the season with 62 points should they win all their seven games. Chiefs are away to Mosi Rovers in Victoria Falls tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Bosso 90 who are chasing a top four finish are away to Chiwororo at HQ One Brigade this afternoon while Black Boots face Victoria Falls Tigers.
