THE Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has embarked on a week-long consumer education and awareness campaign targeting Matabeleland North province.

Potraz executive officer research, Mr Phibion Chaibva said they will utilise the outreach programme, which began in Nkayi yesterday, to conduct consumer education and receive service concerns from communities.

“We will be holding consumer education and awareness campaigns in Matabeleland North. Areas to be covered include Nkayi, Tsholotsho, Jotsholo, Gwayi, Dete, Kamativi and Binga business centres,” he said.

Mr Chaibva said consumers would be educated on their rights concerning accurate charges and quality service that should be provided by different service providers. He also said that consumers should exercise their responsibility by reporting acts of vandalism on property to the police.

“Consumers must be charged accurately on the services provided to them. We will be educating them about accurate charges they should be given by service providers.

“They (consumers) have a right to report acts of vandalism on property to the nearest police station because they are the ones who are benefitting from the property and their concerns must be taken into consideration,” said Mr Chaibva.

He said consumers would also be educated on issues of conserving the environment including friendly ways of disposing airtime cards in litter bins.

“We will be having a booklet where consumers’ feedback about services like internet coverage will be taken into consideration. Also, services like where the service providers do not provide quality services and how these should be solved in order for consumers to be satisfied,” said Mr Chaibva.

He challenged service providers to provide quality services to their consumers and said Potraz would identify various areas where there was a need to improve service.

The consumer education and awareness campaign was initiated in 2016 and this year’s exercise runs under the theme “Postal and Telecommunications Consumers Know Your Right”.
