LIFE for Harare-based Power FM lunch time radio presenter and television personality Tariro “Butterphly Phunk” Mharapara, 24, will never be the same again as she has been afforded a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent the country at this year’s Big Brother Africa (BBA) reality show.

The vivacious Coke on the Beat presenter was yesterday unveiled as one of the Big Brother Africa (BBA) Hotshots housemates.

According to her interview with show organisers, the DJ seems to have her game plan all worked out as she revealed she would not use sex or unethical methods as a strategy to win the show.

“I won’t use sex, backstabbing and cheating or fighting in front of cameras or other unethical methods to get the prize.”

The DJ highlighted that she always tries to be herself and has a unique character which makes people assume she is complicated.

“I am unique, fiesty, mysterious, fun-loving and witty. People are always shocked when they discover that I am humble, compassionate and kind.

“I like people with a sense of humour, honour and truthfulness, and dislike dishonesty and people who pretend to like a person,” she said.

The ambitious lass hopes to make herself endearing, in a way that BBA audiences will not be able to survive without her in the Hotshots house.

“I want Africa to see me like an important character, I want to be viral like oxygen so that Africa keeps me in the House until the final day.”

Asked what she would do with the prize money, Butterphly said she would send her sister, brother and children to good schools. She added that she would also use the prize money to take her mother shopping and start a food chain.

Besides targeting the $300,000 prize money, Butterphly entered the competition so as to market herself and represent Zimbabwe on an international platform.

“Butterphly entered Big Brother Hotshots because she’d always wanted to be part of a national sports team, but never got the chance.
“Being on Big Brother Africa will allow me the opportunity to market myself and expand my brand,” she was quoted saying.

The radio presenter is undeniably on the right springboard to stardom as being on the BBA platform will likely catapult her career from “that” girl to the “it” girl – just like Vimbai Mutinhiri.

In an interview with Butterphly’s workmates at ZBC revealed that her character fits in well with this season’s Hotshots theme.

Most of her friends who preferred anonymity said she adored the spotlight and loves the glamorous lifestyle – which is part of this year’s theme. The presenter is famous at ZBC for her loud hairstyles – something which BBA housemates are synonymous for.

Housemates this season are those with hidden talents; they adore the spotlight and will let nothing stand in the way of their pursuit of fame and fortune, just like Butterphly.

It remains to be seen if Butterphly will stick to her “moral” ways as the BBA House has proved to be tempting, often changing people’s characters due to the frustration of being locked up 24/7 with no entertainment. Also joining Butterphly in the BBA House are Ellah 23, a sales assistant from Uganda and Alusa, 33, an actor, radio drama director and MC from Kenya. Alusa is married and has three children.

More housemates’ names will be revealed today.

Biggie’s decision to announce BBA Housemates – weeks before the show commences – is a first from show producers as their identities have always been a top secret – often being revealed when the Housemates enter the House.

Though some have leaked, Big Brother has always left people to speculate.

Things are being done differently this year as BBA organisers announced that they would be revealing three housemates’ names daily as fans countdown to the October 5 launch.
