BULAWAYO provincial education director Olicah Kaira yesterday challenged athletes to practise true sportsmanship and fairness for the good of sport.

Kaira was addressing 2 000 athletes at the official opening ceremony of the historic primary and secondary schools’ joint national athletics competitions at White City Stadium yesterday.

The athletics meet which runs under the theme “United in sport” started on Tuesday and ends tomorrow.

“We are here today making history. An event such as this one has never happened in Zimbabwe. We are proud to be having this event which is in line with the new curriculum.

“The commitment from all the provinces is commendable. Each province has sent their best team to this competition and may the best team win.

“We encourage athletes to practise excellence. Our athletes must compete in true sportsmanship,” Kaira said.
