THE Zanu-PF leadership in Masvingo has started preparations for this year’s 21st February Movement celebrations slated for Mucheke Stadium.

President Robert Mugabe’s birthday falls on February 21 and the 21st February Movement was established in 1986 to encourage the youth to emulate his selfless character and leadership qualities.

Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chairman Cde Ezra Chadzamira said the province has begun preparing for the President’s 92nd birthday.

He said resource mobilising committees have already been put in place.

Cde Chadzamira said the provincial executive was, however, still waiting for the budget from the national executive so that they know the amount of money required. “We’ve already started and as we speak we’re in the middle of preparing for the big event. We’ve already identified the venue and it’s Mucheke Stadium,” said Cde Chadzamira.

He said they have set up district and provincial mobilising committees that will report to the national mobilising committee.

Cde Chadzamira said they have set this month end as the deadline for mobilising resources. “We want to make the event the best of them all. We take pride that for the first time, we’re hosting the birthday bash and we want to do it in style,” he said.

Speaking during the youth national conference at Masvingo Polytechnic College last year, Zanu-PF secretary for youth Cde Pupurai Togarepi called on Masvingo province to be ready to host President Mugabe’s birthday bash.“Masvingo will be the next venue for the 21st February Movement and you should prepare for the big event,” said Cde Togarepi.
