LEGENDARY Zimbabwean golfer and former world number one Nick Price leads his 12-member international team against the United States in the President’s Cup that starts today at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea, today. The tournament runs up to Sunday.

Price will be assisted by fellow Zimbabweans Tony Johnstone and Mark McNulty as well as K J Choi of South Korea to defeat the defending champions of the tournament that is held every two years.

The format will change from previous cup play following a reduction of the number of games from 34 to 30. The first two days consist of five matches of four-ball and five matches of foursomes. The third day will consist of four matches of four-ball and four matches of foursomes.

The host team captain will decide the order on the first three days. On the fourth and final day, 12 singles matches will be played. All matches that are all-square after 18 holes will score half a point for each team.

A four-ball is a match in which two sides, each consisting of two golfers, play each other using better ball scoring (each golfer in the match plays his or her own ball throughout – four balls in play, hence the name).

The foursomes is a competition format in which a team comprises two players, who alternate hitting the same ball. The first player tees off, the second player hits the second shot and the first player hits the third shot until the ball is holed. Players alternate hitting tee shots so that the same player doesn’t hit every drive.

Price’s team will feature the top 10 players in the official World Golf Ranking at the conclusion of the 2015 Deutsche Bank Championship and two captains’ picks. The captains’ picks were announced on September 8, 2015.

“My captain’s picks this year were a little tougher than 2013. It really came down to six players, and with the help of my co-captains, we whittled it down to three and then later in the day, close to the time to reveal my picks, it came down to two,” Price is quoted saying on the official tournament website. “Australian Steven Bowditch was an obvious pick for us. He is obviously a very accomplished and capable player and I think he is starting the prime of his career.”
