A ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Services officer who could not stomach his friend’s possible loss of a game of pool allegedly struck a rival player twice with a pool stick.

Alex Chigama (27) allegedly severely assaulted Evans Kutsvaruna (25) at Mutamba Sports bar in Old Pumula after he was about to win the game against the officer’s friend.

Chigama, of Old Pumula suburb in Bulawayo, who is stationed at Khami Prison Complex was not asked to plead when he appeared before Western Commonage Magistrate Ms Tancy Dube facing an attempted murder charge.

He was remanded in custody to December 22.

According to the State, on November 18 this year, Chigama was playing pool with his friend when Kutsvaruna approached and asked to join them in playing pool.

During the match, Kutsvaruna told Chigama that he was going to win the game against his friend.

Prosecuting, Ms Magret Takawira said Chigama got angry and struck him twice with a pool stick on the mouth and at the back of his head.

“Complainant told accused that he would win the game against his friend. Accused person got angry at the remarks and he took a pool stick which he used to strike the complaint twice.

‘‘Complainant sustained deep injuries from the assault. He was rushed to Mpilo hospital where he was admitted,” said Ms Takawira.

She said a medical report would be used in court as an exhibit. — @tannytkay.
