ZANU-PF Matabeleland North province yesterday unanimously endorsed Professor Jonathan Moyo as the party’s candidate in the forthcoming Tsholotsho North constituency by-election set for June 10.Indications that the province was fully behind Prof Moyo were evident before the start of a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting called by national commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere in Lupane where party members burst into song with the lyrics, “Jona hlala la, Jona hlala la, uz’ukhokhobe” (Prof Moyo stay here till you grow old).

Addressing the meeting, Cde Kasukuwere said developments in the party and country were getting interesting with the MDCs having lost steam.

“That destructive train is now coming to a halt. They were busy chanting Chinja Maitiro but now they’re finished. It’s now time  the party continues to energise itself. Grab and take from where these cowards are running , let’s seize the territory,” he said.

“Zimbabwe is Zanu-PF territory and we can never allow anyone, let alone sellouts like MDCs to ever again take control of our political destiny.

“In Matabeleland North, we’re happy that MDC themselves, playing their own games, have freed the people of Tsholotsho.”

Cde Kasukuwere said he had come to announce that the party required the name of a candidate to represent the people of Tsholotsho North in Parliament by April 8.

“We want somebody who goes and stands up for the people of Tsholotsho, to realise their dreams and aspirations not this fake arrangement that was there where someone was siphoning funds on behalf of the people for herself,” he said.

“They want stadiums built, they want better products from Campfire, they want someone who will go and represent them in Harare and the time of doing that is now. Come the 8th of April we must have a candidate and I’m being told that there will be no challenges even by the MDCs.

“Both factions are running away from their own mess. I’m saying Tsvangirai come, we need you in the ring and he’s saying no you people want to bring me back, I’m not interested.

“How can you say you don’t recognise the laws that are being used to run these elections yet only two years ago, those Parliamentarians went to Parliament using the same laws? Tsvangirai says the election was stolen by Zanu-PF. Zanu-PF does not rig elections, Zanu-PF wins elections.”

Cde Kasukuwere asked Matabeleland North provincial chairperson Cde Richard Moyo to inform the party whether there would be a primary election in Tsholotsho constituency.

A swift response came from the floor with members saying there wasn’t going to be a primary election.

“So there is no primary election in Tsholotsho. Are you sure?” asked Cde Kasukuwere to which the hall reverberated with cheers in unison and the national commissar responded, “Ah so asitshayeni’zandla madoda” (Lets clap hands).
