TEENAGE Zim dancehall sensation Ras Pompey left Bulawayo unpaid on Sunday after show promoters vanished with his performance fee.But to ensure he does not return to his Harare base totally empty-handed, the 13 year-old chanter stormed Hustlers Leisure Centre and confiscated a DJ mixer owned by one of the promoters of his Bulawayo gigs.

Ras Pompey performed with Spiderman and Platinum Prince both from Harare and Bulawayo’s Sean Milia at two shows, on Saturday night at Mqombothi and Hustlers Leisure Centre in the city.

The artistes accuse show promoters DJ Ohms, real name Lazzie Munetsi and Phat Joe, real name Joe Sibanda from Hustlers, of conniving to take all gate takings and disappearing without paying them.

According to sources, the agreement was that Platinum Prince was to receive $260 while Ras Pompey was supposed to receive $150 and Spiderman was to receive $150.

“Platinum Prince was paid a deposit of $160 leaving out a difference of $100 which he was supposed to get after the show,” said the source.

According to sources Ras Pompey ended up confiscating DJ Ohms’ mixer as surety that he would come with his money, failure to which he would sell it to recover his performance fee.

DJ Ohms is no stranger to controversy as he was once involved in a suspected scandal, early this year.

The disc jockey was involved in the Zahara’s after-party at Club Forty 40, where a barrage of allegations flew from one end to the other after being accused of duping the club owner.

Narrating his ordeal, Ras Pompey had no kind words for DJ Ohms saying all he wanted was his performance fee.

“I have nothing to say to anyone right now. All I want is my money; I can’t come all the way from Harare to be robbed. After these people failed to give me my money all I had to do was confiscate the mixer and I have it at home. When he comes with my money then I’ll give him the mixer,” he said.

Chronicle Showbiz is informed that DJ Ohms had no written contract with a Harare based promoter Virimayi Nzira whom he roped in to convince the three dancehall artistes to perform in Bulawayo.

Nzira said they had agreed on performance fees but DJ Ohms also disappeared on him.

“Ras Pompey and Spiderman hadn’t yet been given their money and we were expecting to receive their money soon after their performance as we had agreed with him that he would give us the money,” he said.

Nzira said on Saturday night, the artistes had three shows lined up in the city at Mqombothi, Hustlers and White City Arena. He said the artistes performed at Mqombothi and Hustlers, where they found out they had been duped.

“Ras Pompey performed at Mqombothi first before he went to Hustlers, while Spiderman performed at Hustlers before he exchanged with Ras Pompey. All hell broke loose when the trio had finished performing at Hustlers as they were told that the money realised at the  show at Mqombothi was $90 and there was nothing from the Hustlers show,” said Nzira.

DJ Phat Joe distanced himself from the confusion saying he was involved only because he was organising marketing and publicity for the show.

“I was providing the venue. I don’t know what Ohms and Ras Pompey’s crew agreed in terms of payment. I handed $90 that was collected from Mqombothi to Ohms, who in turn vanished with the money,” he said.

Phat Joe said DJ Ohms had his own people manning the entrances at both venues collecting gate takings.

When contacted for comment DJ Ohms’ cellphone was answered by a person by the name of Keeyz who said the wheel spinner left with Ras Pompey for Harare on Sunday and has not returned.
