ZIMDANCEHALL artiste Bovas, (real name Emmanuel Majaya) says Bulawayo promoters should cash in on the craze and promote their own stars as they have the same abilities as their Harare counterparts.

The Bulawayo-based dancehall musician has made a name for himself as he has shared the stage with dancehall artistes such as Shinsoman, Killa T and Soul Jah Love.

Bovas said show promoters were short-changing themselves by failing to take advantage of the Zimdancehall craze, which would also put Bulawayo on the map.

“I think promoters are losing out in this whole thing (Zimdancehall). Instead of always calling dancehall artistes from Harare, they should come up with strategies and shows that feature Bulawayo dancehall artistes,” he said.

Bovas said Bulawayo dancehall artistes could compete with popular artistes from Harare so there was no excuse for not promoting them.

“Promoters should have faith in us. We’re as good as some of these dancehall artistes they are importing. It’s only that we don’t have the same exposure and have not had opportunities to perform outside Bulawayo,” he said.

Bovas said there were more than 20 Zimdancehall artistes in the city who chant in either Shona or Ndebele. “We have a talented group of artistes. They’re versatile because they sing in Shona, English as well as Ndebele and as such appeal to more people in the country. I’ve met some in Hwange who can do it in Nambya,” he said.
