The incident occurred on New Year’s Eve.

Sources said Mr Michael Mhene has since abandoned the house following the incident.

The sources said it was the fourth time the house had been struck by lightning in the past few years.

“It is not the first time that this house has been struck by lightning. Prosecutors who have been in Gokwe for some time are now avoiding the house as they suspect that it could be haunted,” a source said.

Mr Mhene, who is new in the area, has since abandoned the house and is now living as a squatter after he learnt that it was the fourth time the house has been struck by lightning.Everyone now thinks the house is haunted,” said the source.

Mr Mhene confirmed the lightning incident when contacted for comment yesterday.

He, however, denied that he had abandoned the house saying he was now living in fear following the incident.

“It’s true the house I am staying in was struck by lightning. I have, however, not abandoned the house because I have nowhere to stay. I am new in the area but obviously following such a frightening incident, I am naturally afraid but there is nothing much that I can do about it,” he said.

Mr Mhene said he was relaxing at home when he suddenly saw himself in the open after lightning struck, bringing down the roof.

“Part of my property was soaked in the rain after the lightning incident because we could not immediately rescue the property,” he said.

He said the destroyed roof was being fixed.
