A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Gweru prostitute has been sentenced to an effective seven months in prison for stabbing her colleague over a client. Nomatter Hombore pleaded guilty to assault charges when she appeared before magistrate Judith Taruvinga.

The prostitute claimed in court that she acted in self-defence as Martha Chindiro was assaulting her over a client on June 18.

“Your worship, the complainant is the one who was attacking me and I was trying to protect myself from her. She was accusing me of stealing a client,” said Hombore.

Taruvinga said it was embarrassing for women to fight over a man and even go to the extent of stabbing each other.

“I’m sentencing you to nine months imprisonment with two months suspended on condition you don’t commit a similar offence in three years. What I find aggravating is that you almost killed another woman over a client and that is embarrassing,” said Taruvinga.

Prosecuting, Pride Gomera said on June 18 this year at Salaco Night Club in Mtapa at around 01:40AM, Hombore stabbed Chindiro once on the left hand and twice on her back following a misunderstanding over a client.

“Hombore and Chindiro were arguing in the club over a client and when the police came to take the two to the station Hombore then stabbed Chindiro,” said Gomera.

“Chindiro was stabbed twice on the back and she sustained a deep cut on her hand and had bruises on her neck.”

Recently, a 22-year-old soldier Farai Chabvura was stabbed twice in the chest and cheek in a night club fight over a hooker. The soldier survived, only to die on the same night in a hit and run accident while on his way home.
