Cape Town – Ugandan police are reportedly holding a 6-year-old pupil and her mother after the young girl sneaked through President Yoweri Museveni’s security and handed him a letter.According to Africa Review, the incident happened on Saturday at Ntare school where Museveni had gone to attend an old boys reunion.

The report said Bridget Atwijukire moved swiftly to the presidential tent, making it difficult for a Special Forces Command guard to stop her. In no time at all, she was kneeling in front of Museveni and showed him an envelope.

Museveni signalled for a female aide to take the envelope as he briefly chatted with the girl.

It was not clear what Atwijukire told Museveni, the report said.

Police spokesperson Ibin Senkumbi, however, said the girl and her mother were following up on pledges made to them by the president.
Atwijukire and her mother claimed the president had promised to buy land and construct a house for them. He had also promised to pay school fees for Atwijukire.

Senkumbi said they had been impatient with the pledge and suspected the funds could have been released and swindled.
Police said they were waiting for feedback from the State Attorney to have the two released, the report said. — News24
